Common Summer Plumbing Issues and How to Fix Them

The last thing you need in the middle of summer is a plumbing issue that can cut off your water supply. Household water consumption spikes in summer, so problems with your plumbing can disrupt your daily routine.

Damaged Sprinkler Heads

You need to make sure your garden and lawn receive enough water in summer. Otherwise, plants may start to wilt, and the grass on your lawn may start to take on an unsightly shade of brown, lowering your home’s curb appeal in the process. That’s why it’s important to check your sprinkler heads for signs of damage and the hose for leaks before the start of summer.

Here’s a tip: sprinkler heads are often damaged by lawnmowers, which is why you need to be careful when mowing your lawn.

Overloaded Washing Machines

Since the kids are spending more time at home, the household laundry load will increase. When washing clothes, be careful not to overload your washing machine. The larger the laundry load, the higher the strain on your washing machine, and the higher the risk of breakdowns.

Here’s a tip: hard water can shorten the lifespan of appliances that use water. Over time, the mineral traces in hard water might accumulate in the pipes, damaging the appliances. To prevent mineral buildup in your pipes, plumbers recommend installing a water softener or water treatment equipment to remove traces of minerals from your water supply.

Clogged Toilets

Everyone knows you shouldn’t flush tissues down the toilet. The problem is your kids might forget, which is why it’d be a good idea to remind them to throw away tissues properly.

Backed-Up Sewer Pipes

During heavy summer storms, loose soil might get into cracks in your pipework, causing clogs. If you experience backed up drains, call a professional plumber as soon as possible.
