Everything Homeowners Should Know About Faucet Aerators

FacebookTwitterEmailShare

If you’ve watched your plumber fiddle with your faucet to fix any problems caused by hard water, it’s possible that you’ve seen a small component with a metal screen disk. This component is known as a faucet aerator, and it is important since it benefits your faucet as well as your finances. With that in mind, we’re going to take an in-depth look at faucet aerators.

Everything Homeowners Should Know About Faucet Aerators

Here’s everything you need to know about faucet aerators.

What Do Faucet Aerators Do?

Believe it or not, for a component so small as a faucet aerator, it offers numerous advantages to your home. In fact, aerators can actually help you save a significant amount of water and money at the same time. This is because they tend to reduce the water flow to your faucet while widening the stream of water at the same time, allowing homeowners such as yourself to use less water without having to sacrifice comfort in the process. This in turn could translate into large water bill savings on a monthly basis.

How to Clean Faucet Aerators

Like every fixture in your home, faucet aerators could become clogged with dirt over time. Once this happens, the freshness of the water it provides could be significantly reduced. Luckily, cleaning a faucet aerator is simple, and you can even do it on your own. To do so, simply close the sink stopper to avoid losing parts, and remove the aerator before placing it on a clean towel. If possible, take the aerator apart, and soak it in vinegar for an hour.

Once the hour has passed, remove the vinegar, and rinse it with water before replacing the aerator into your faucet. Once you’ve done so, the aerator should be as clean as possible, allowing it to maintain your water’s freshness.
